Last month I configured my DSL modem using rp-pppoe.
Since last one week after updating my Debian Sarge box, I was
continuously being reminded at boot-time that the method I was using for
bringing up my netcard was deprecated and I should refer to
/etc/network/interfaces for the latest method.
After struggling for 1 week, I finally found what needs to be done -

delete the file - /etc/ppp/ppp_on_boot :-O

Please note - configuration of the DSL modem remains same, ie, as root,
run 'pppoeconf' and answer all the questions.

Maybe this will help someone to struggle a little less ;)
