what are yu using as your desktop environment? gnome 1.4 or gnome 2 or
anything other (e.g. kde). afaik, the gtk based apps that yu're talking
about, specially sylpheed and gnucash are gtk1.2 based. i think yu should
try fiddling with .gtkrc-1.2 file in your home directory. there's one file
called gtkrc.mine or similar where yu can specify the fonts required by
yu. the following used to work when i was using mandrake 8.2 (gnome 1.4)
and mandrake 9.0 (gnome 2.0)
------- .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 ------
# Autowritten by gnome-settings-daemon. Do not edit
include "/usr/share/themes/Industrial/gtk/gtkrc"
include "/home/vivek/.gtkrc.mine"
-------- .gtkrc.mine -----------
style "user-font"
{
font="-bitstream-charter-medium-r-normal-*-*-100-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"
or maybe as per http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=6921 edit the
file /etc/gtk/gtkrc.utf-8 and add
style "default-text" {
fontset = "-*-arial-medium-r-normal--*-136-*-*-*-*-iso10646-1,\
-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--*-136-*-*-*-*-*-*"
}
class "GtkWidget" style "default-text"
hope this would solve the problem
