Recently I recieved by post a CD from the Govt Of India which contained OpenOffice.Org (Bharatheeyam), a bundle containing Hindi fonts from CDAC and Modular Infotech, some programs which aids in typing in Hindi and so on. I installed the programs (which were available for both Linux and Windows) on my machine.
The result.... I am far from satisfied. I have no issue with the programs as such. It was the fonts that were creating the problem. I found that each program worked only with its own set of fonts. There is no standardisation and you won't feel like looking twice at a document created using these fonts. If localisation of programs has to be a success, the first step is standardisation and availablity of a good set of fonts. Why is it difficult to create a good fonts ? The chinese have a nice fonts which they use to publish on their websites. Has any one else faced the same problem I faced while installing this software bundle in Linux? ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc.
