It was RAID-0. More on this can be found here http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/pipermail/ilugc/2007-August/035946.html. Unfortunately the person on the remote side wanted his machine to be up desparately and hence we have just used only one disk with a workaround (parprobe /dev/sda).
