The media with which the hubs and the client machines are connected is
important.  Twisted pair UTP cables of good quality is a must.
The D-Link 100 BaseT hub and cards with the Davicom chipsets have been
tested for full duplex operation and are found to be good.  

Most of the older 10 BaseT cards eventhough advertised to work full 
duplex are found to be chugging along on half-duplex !!
