Wayne,
The problem is probably that minicom interacts with the
SH888 without the intervening irda protocol.
Try dialling the number with a final ; (semicolon)
atd0123456789;
If this gets through as a voice call then you are not using
the irda protocols. On the SH888 you cannot execute a dial
operation without the final ; unless you are using the irda
protocols.
Ericsson have configured the serial port on the SH888 as an
engineering convenience for diagnostic purposes.
If they had refrained from putting in the requirement
for the final ; then the SH888 could also have been used
as a plain ordinary modem in
the same way as the Ericsson GS18 GSM phone and the Siemens
M20 which is a data only GSM modem (no phone keyboard).
Starting handles on cars are old fashioned but very useful
on a dark night when your battery is flat!
