Dear All

I wrote to the SuSE list English list last week to ask about the
possibility of plugging my Ericsson T18S mobile phone into my Compaq
1592DT notebook which uses SuSE 7.0. The hardware might not be too
good the software is superb.

The person who wrote back explained that I could use Irda to do what I
wanted to do. This was something of a surprise.

I'd like to plug my phone into COM1 on the back of my notebook. The
explanation I've had is that I can configure Irda to send data along
the cable that I have that will allow my T18S to be plugged into the
notebook. I can't use infra red with my phone unless I buy an extra
modem which costs about $150 U.S. I don't want to throw the money
away. Plugging the phone into COM1 to send mail and view web pages
while I'm travelling seems to be the most sensible thing to do.

Looked in the Irda howto. It doesn't explain that I can do this kind
of thing.

If it is possible to do this can someone give me a few clues about how
to set Irda up so that it sends data to COM1. One of the things I'm
not sure about is how to tell the Irda system to connect to my ISP.
I can see that the Irda system is working. Nothing wrong with it.

The final solution to this is to wait until April when the contract
runs out on the phone and throw it away. Get a new phone from the
local dealer.
