Hello,

since a few weeks I am a proud owner of a handspring visor deluxe.
Hot sync with the USB craddle works fine with Linux, but I would
like to communicate with the device using IrDA too - both for hot
sync and for 'serial/network communication'.

AFAIR, the visor showed up once in the irdadump, but I wasn't able
to talk to the device. Then I read that I have to install an update
for IrDA on the visor. I found such an update on a palm collection
CD and the readme said, that it should work for most 'palm compatible'
devices; so I installed it, but it freezes the device and I have to
do a cold boot. Now, the device doesn't show up in irdadump anymore
(but I am not sure anymore if it really did in the beginning ;-).

Since then, I am looking for further information about 'connecting
Linux and Visor via IrDA', but the more I read, the more I get
confused ...

I am using Linux kernel 2.2.16 with a SuSE distribution which AFAIK
has full IrDA support enabled on a Maxdata 650T pro notebook. And I
am able to talk to other IrDA devices, such as a Siemens S25 mobile
phone and a Psion S5mxPro.

Can anybody shed some light on that topic?

TIA,

        John
