For what it's worth, I was using HSCSD on Orange (theoretically 28.8k)
and never got anything close to that in practice for things like pop3,
but at 1p/min (which they're abolishing in November) it didn't really
matter much.

I _did_ get close to theoretical transfer rates doing an rsync -z -essh,
strangely enough.
