I have exactly the same problem on a sony vaio n505x. (also nsc-chip). After a bios (and kernel) update I can now load the driver after a suspend/resume cycle and it now sends data, but it doesn't recognize data sent from another device. Before the bios update I too get the "Wrong chip version ff" error.
