Hi,

After some linux-irda list posts reading I got the IrDA work between my
Compaq Armada M700 laptop (Linux Mandrake 8.2, IrDA utils 0.9.14,
standard mdk-kernel-2.4.18) and Nokia 6310 gsm phone.

First I got it work with irtty & Ircomm driver but this setup had IR
port speed problems (pppd always died after some 60sec) + stability
problems (often the laptop didnt see the phone..reboot helped). Then I
tried the smc-ircc & Ircomm driver, feeding right io addresses and
irq-dma parameters to smc-ircc module with modprobe (then it loaded
module OK ).
Now it works quite reliable but I still have speed problems - I have to
limit IR port speed to 19200 (by doing "echo 19200 >
/proc/sys/net/max_baud_rate") to be able surf the net with pppd and
GPRS. If I increase IR port speed and make a new ppp connection then
pppd dies after some 30-60sec or so.
Also I have my laptop logs filled in with "IrLAP, no activity on link!"
and "NETDEV WATCHDOG: irda0: transmit timed out" messages.
No other device uses that IRQ (irq 3), also UART is set to NONE, serial
module is removed, etc.

Tried also HP Omnibook 6100 laptop with Nokia 6310 and it worked very
well with irtty & Ircomm driver. No problems at all and I could get
speedy and reliable pppd GPRS connection with it.

With Armada M700 there is no BIOS option to set IR port as SIR or FIR,
it allows only to Enable or Disable IR port.
Also Im not able to get IR to work again with irtty driver anymore - it
starts discovery but doesn't discover anything. It happened after I
managed to get the smc-ircc module to load. I have tried reboot laptop
and not loading any Irda modules at boot time - then loading irtty and
starting discovery with "irattach /dev/ttyS2 -s" but it doesnt discover
anything.

Are there any IrDA kernel pathes to try which might fix some problems
with smc-ircc driver and its IR port speed issues (transmission
timeouts???)?

Thnx in advance,
