Oops, I didn't notice that before. Lucky I didn't start complaining
about EPOC :-)

This gave me an excellent idea: Why not use irdadump to inspect the
chat between the Psion and the 8810? I set up the laptop, the Psion
and the 8810 in a triangle and tried, and it worked perfect. Why
didn't I think of this before? Maybe it's even documented on this list
before?

I put the dump here to avoid flooding this list with long dumps of
limited interest: http://www.mork.no/~bjorn/s5-8810.txt
For comparison, here's a dump of a failing Linux-IrDA session:
http://www.mork.no/~bjorn/linux-8810.txt

What a waste of money the test probe is :-)

The Psion Series 5 <-> Nokia 8810 chat goes like this (exactly, including
the small "s"):

 >ATH
 <OK
 >AT+FCLASS=0
 <OK
 >ATZ
 <OK
 >AT
 <OK
 >ATX0
 <OK
 >ATM1L1s8=4
 <OK
 >ATD+47 92000222
 <CONNECT

A lot shorter than the 5MX one. One interesting difference: The 5MX used
X4 while the series5 uses X0. Unfortunately, none of them makes any
difference in Linux. The problem must be somewhere else.

Yes.

Totally offtopic, but this need for up to five numbers (voice, voicemail,
fax, modem, ISDN) per mobile phone has become a problem for the norwegian
number plan. We may have to move from 8 to 9 digits in the near future.
Sort of overkill with a population of only 4 million...
