I don't think there are any relationship here. The Ericsson impl. is quite
different from the Nokia one. Notice that we have only one Ericsson user
which has problems, and he is not sure if he has subscription for data
connections or not. No carrier is the correct response if you don't
subscribe to data connections.
The IrDA impl. of the Nokia 8810 is very insane, and the log you provided
me from a successful connection between Linux and the 8810 is not a
"correct" IrCOMM session. It is therefore very difficult for me to make
Linux-IrCOMM work for this phone. Well, I must admit that I haven't traced
the problem fully, but the reason is partly that I received some of your
logs so many days after the first ones, that I got out of the IrCOMM
debugging mode ;-) I still have the logs, so I might try again when I get
into IrCOMM debugging mode again ;-)
