First of all, you should try out patch-2.2.14-irda1 since it fixes a _lot_
of bugs in the ACTiSYS 220L driver. Grab irda-utils-0.9.7 as well.

In the latest patches, you don't need to use irmanager. Just start IrDA by
doing:

        irattach /dev/ttyS0 -d actisys -s 1

you also need to add this stuff to /etc/conf.modules

alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty
alias irda-dongle-2 actisys

and /dev

crw------- 1 dagb 161, 0 Dec 22 14:15 /dev/ircomm0

BTW: Are you sure the Newton supports IrCOMM? It doesn't give any hints
about it! Maybe you need to start something on the Newton to make it
activate its IrCOMM protocol?
