Hi,

Since fiddling with IrDA between my laptop and my Ericcson 768 phone I
soon decided that the speed and cost of the net connection wasn't worth
it, I had almost resigned IR as not an option for me ;-(

However,

I've recently got hold of an Actisys IR-210(l) motherboard adapter, it
appears to work and I can now irdaping my laptop (HP Omnibook 2100
running in SIR mode) from my desktop and vice versa using the
information gained from irmanager -d 1 or from cat'ing
/proc/net/irda/discovery.

What I want to be able to now is to use IRLAN to connect the laptop to
the desktop so when I want a file quickly I dont have to go through the
hassle of finding a network cable and adapter, I can just network them
through IR! I can successfully run the following on the desktop (2.2.16
no patches applied, should I have?):

modprobe irlan0
ifconfig irlan0 up 10.3.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0

and I can see irlan0 configured!

On the laptop (2.2.14 with a patch applied... I think... this was some
time ago ;-|)

I can't actually configure irlan0 on the laptop.... I get told there is
no such interface??

Am I going about things the right sort of way? or can somebody spot a
gaping floor in my plan?

Thanks

Neil
