Okay here's a possibly stupid question:
I've noticed by looking through the list archives and some of
the module code that most/all of the Linux-IRDA code is
kernel oriented. Can any of this be used by regular userspace
apps?

I've got the Palm side of a Palm/Linux client-server app
pretty much working and am now turning my attention to the
Linux side of things.

I'm not tied to any particular language so if there's an API in
Perl or Python or something else I'll use that
(How easy would it be to spooge PyOBEX into PyCOMM?)

Sorry if this seems really stupid or obvious, it's been a while
since I've done any real serious UNIX systems/networking hacking.
