I gave it a try, with a similar system (Ubuntu Dapper).

First, the DK14FA-20 doesn't get any of the keys specified in
20-rio-karma.fdi. I tried changing
        "info.category" string="storage"
to "info.category" string="portable_audio_player"

since that's how it gets described but that didn't help,
portable_audio_player.type still remains "generic".

The second partition gets the
volume.policy.desired_mount_point & volume.policy.mount_filesystem
correctly but not the volume.fstype and volume.fstype. That's really
strange.

By the way, you put
     <merge key="volume.fsusage" type="filesystem">omfs</merge>
in preferences.fdi and
     <merge key="volume.fsusage" type="string">filesystem</merge>
in 20-rio-karma.fdi. I think the first one shouldn't be there right ?

But despite all that, it should be mounted since the
storage.policy.should_mount is set to "true". It doesn't and
gnome-volume-manager complains with

manager.c/2630: Device
added: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part2_size_19919976960
manager.c/2403: no sensible filesystem
for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part2_size_19919976960

Bob, are these the problems you had with Dapper that got fixed by
upgrading to Edgy ? And could you send me the relevant parts of lshal ?

Thanks

Julien
