Reading this prompted me to check in /usr/share/hal. And there was
another 20-rio-karma.fdi lying around, certainly from a previous
installation. Removing it fixed almost everything. Now all keys get
inherited except for 
        volume.fstype and volume.fsusage

Are they needed for gnome-volume-manager ? It still doesn't mount
anything, complaining now with 

manager.c/2630: Device
added: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part2_size_19919976960
manager.c/2403: no sensible filesystem
for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part2_size_19919976960
manager.c/2420: Changed: /dev/sda2

What surprises me is that nautilus can mount the «Poste de
Travail»/karma (excuse my french...) when you click it, so it seems it
can understand the fstab entry. On the other hand, nautilus can't
unmount it by itself, you have to manually unmount /media/karma...
