Dynamic device numbers are fine for those who use devtmpfs / udev, but I would imagine that there are systems out there which don't, and if they change, systems become inaccessible (the port becomes dead, even to sysrq.) -- RMK's Patch system: http://www.armlinux.org.uk/developer/patches/ FTTC broadband for 0.8mile line: currently at 9.6Mbps down 400kbps up according to speedtest.net.
