Hi Bradley, Thanks for the reivew. I used AI-assisted tooling for code analysis and drafting the comment, but I reviewed and edited it myself. I'll shorten it in v4.
I also checked vers_ext_crc; it looks like it needs the same handling in the same place, so I'll address it together in v4 rather than as a separate follow-up.
