Hello,

  if your kernel supports sound (see the kernel HOWTO at 
http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO), it should be as simple as


  cat /dev/dsp > toto


  Say something, for example "Hello world". then do Ctrl-C. To listen
to what you've said, do :

  cat toto > /dev/dsp


  But that's rather primitive, and you may be interested in the list
of linux sound applications at 

  http://sound.condorow.net

ps : Toshiba 210cs is what I use. Hopefully, 300 is the same as far as
sound is concerned.
