Have you made certain pppd is in your path? Actually, I would think that means
your kernel doesn't support ppp, though that message usually properly reflects
that the kernel isn't set up properly.
Do you run ppp from a command line script? If so, "set -x" in it and find out
where the error occurs.
If it's from some gui, check the sources of the gui.
