Hmmmm. Which version(s) of XFree86 are those? IIRC, the C&T chipsets
have trouble on XFree86 servers > 3.1.x, which is strange if ya ask me.
(Usually the newer ones work -better-.) Just something that rang a bell
-- disclaimer that it may be totally incorrect. In any case, have you
tried the newest (version 3.3.3.1) servers? Another thing to check is
that if you have any sort of hardware auto-stretch on and you're using a
resolution less than the maximum your panel can do, the display will
definitely look grainy and messy no matter what you do. Best thing to do
is just fix your Modeline(s) in your XF86Config for that one, so that you
use your panel's maximum resolution ... but again, I don't know the
details of your setup, so this could be entirely off-base.
As for the mouse, do you have gpm working? If so, how does it work in
console mode? If it works great there, then this is "just" an X issue.
