I understand how to use setserial & minicom to test my serial connection to an external modem but I just can't find the darn port. It's most peculiar. It _should_ be COM1 (/dev/ttyS0 ?). It's a 9-pin serial port. The port & modem work fine under W98 on the laptop, so I know the hardware is ok. The modem has worked fine on a desktop Linux box, so I know the modem is ok. The serial port is COM1 under W98 and the internal PCMCIA modem is COM4. However, under Linux the internal PCMCIA modem is COM1 and ... goodness knows what the serial port is. You may wonder why I want to plug an external modem in, when there's an internal modem already functioning fine on the laptop. The answer is, I want to plug an ISDN TA into the serial port... but I don't know a thing about TAs, so I'm leaving it until the port itself is working. All advice is appreciated. This one's really got me beat! ;) Hugo
