If your Xircom card is a CE II or CE-10BT then there is no support,

your mouse is probably a ps/2, make sure you have gpm running and
looking at
/dev/psaux
What is video chipset?
the Alsa main page mentioned by Matt is at
alsa.jcu.cz
I remember doing an install of suse 6.1 and there was something
about DVD
support
in there. Maybe someone else knows more.
