Well, questions go to this list and this was a question so I
guess you did it right! Anyways, I have no idea about the
sound card but the video should work. There was a short
discussion about this card a week or so ago, you can check the
list archives to see it. In short, the latest collection of
Xservers (in XF86-SVGA probably) in XFree86-3.3.6 now has
support for this chipset and if that doesn't work the XFBDev
(VESA 2.0 frame buffer device) server should.

Hello All,
This is my first post to the list so I hope I'm doing
this correctly.
There's a laptop (CompUSA PC Mobile Series RL 400D) for
sale at CompUSA here in San Francisco that is cheap and
has a DVD player. These are the two things I'm looking
for in a laptop. However I don't know if the video card
is supported by XFree86 or if the sound card is supported
by Linux. Has anyone successfully used these cards?
Video Card: Silicon Motion Lynx EM
Audio Card: Riptide
Neither one is listed on any of the Linux Hardware
compatibility lists I've seen but I'm hoping they're
usable under the SVGA and SoundBlaster support in Linux.
Thanks in Advance,
Mike
