We are running vmware under Linux. We use it to run Windows for the few
poor souls that just can't live without their favorite Windows application.
Another great use for it is to install different Linux distributions for
evaluation and test.
You need sufficient memory and CPU to run it though. We have it installed on our main
file server, a 4-CPU server with 1 Gb of
RAM. I have played with single VMs on my workstation (128 Mb) and my laptop (64 Mb).
The laptop was painfully slow though.
Graphics performance is not so good either, even with the vmware tools installed on
each guest operating system.
