I just successfully installed Redhat 6.1 on my SONY VAIO Z505RX using the excellent instructions at http://www.graphics.stanford.edu/lab/howto/linux/vaiolinux.html for the Z505S (I installed all packages, figuring I could remove later.) I successfully booted from CD and made only the obvious modifications for the different machine. After installation it booted fine in X, but when I attempt to mount the CDrom it complains that the kernel does not recognize /dev/cdrom as a block device and the mount fails. I could not find a mention of the problem snooping the web for linux on vaio z505* models. I can still load software via a network connection, but it would be nice to have the cdrom function. Is this a problem with a configuration file because of the pcmcia cdrom? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bob
