Didn't you have to use a boot parameter at the boot prompt to get the
VAIO to boot from CDROM? If I remember correctly, the VAIO uses a
non-standard base I/O address for the CDROM. If so, you should try
adding that to /etc/lilo.conf using an append statement.

I haven't had to do any customizations on lilo.conf for awhile so I
hope I'm not leading you astray.
