The PCMCIA BUGS file explains some of the issues. Some (or most??)
Toshiba laptops work reasonably fine with the latest PCMCIA package.
The linux laptops page has lots of pointers to information about
specific Toshiba models, and you should probably check the pages that
apply to your system.
Most of the issues are at worst inconveniences: things like cards
don't work if they were inserted at boot time, but work ok if you
insert them later; or special interrupt requirements.
