I have a nice new Toshiba 4270 and have been unable to find a combination of adaptor and monitor settings which work with X. The chipset is S3 Savage/IX w/MX and the normal SVGA server finds the card and makes an image on the lcd screen but it won't display more than the standard vga letterbox in the middle of the screen.
