i used an ibook in my latest Linux book "Linux for the Laptop," which
should be out in a week or so... the current status:

PPC Linux works well on the ibook (i used Yellow Dog and PPC Linux 2000)

the internal ethernet port is supported

sound is not supported by any distribution

the internal modem works! *but* you must boot using Apple's OpenFirmware
prompt and the Yaboot loader... when you boot this way, X is limited to
256 colors

if you boot using BootX, you can use X11 at 16bpp, but the modem won't
work...

pass kernel arguments to map buttons 2 and 3 (middle and right) to F11 and
F12...

hope this helps...
