Bonjour Daryl, hi Billy!
je vous remercie de votre conseil immediat, and that's as far as my French
goes...
Yes, I agree, not having sound is a bummer. I like my mp3 (sung to the
tune of Dire Straits "I want my MTV"). Did you try OSS? Yes I know it's
commercial, but before I spend hours and hours trying to get sound to work on
some obscure sound card under one of the PC Unices, I've had good experience
using their sound driver. 20$ well spent, IMHO.
What you told us about boot loaders and colour depth vs. modem working seems
as if the first method didn't use X at all, but a framebuffer console, is that
right? And what about alternative XServers, what about Xfree 4.0?
Billy, at what publisher does your book on Linux on laptops come out? Will it
be available through online booksellers? Replying to this won't be seen as an
UCE (a nice politically correct abbr. for unsolicited commercial e-mail I
recently saw used on BUGTRAQ. It's still spam with me.).
Thanks again for your informative replies.
