I've been running RedHat on my Compaq 1675 now for almost a year an half. I'm up to 6.2. Awhile back, I was running one of the 2.3 series kernels with few problems. (Actually just some IDE controller problems that have long since been fixed) Anyway, recently I decided to play with the 2.4test series and got a rude surprise. The kernel compiled and loaded beautifully, but if anything accesses the APM, it locks, solidly. I've tried using sysrq and nohlt on the kernel, but no change. If I so much as try to cat /proc/apm , it locks up. I also noticed this a few weeks ago with 2.3.99pre6. I've also tried compiling as a module and locks as soon as I load the module. With out APM support, the kernel runs beautifully. Any ideas ?
Thanks,
