Man I have had alot of people giving me directions on how to fix it but
nothing is working. I am using RedHat 5.2 everything stock. I just
reinstalled 2 days ago because of failed attempts with 2.2.0pre6.
Once again thanx for your help.

That is a server error message and usually appears if the server
detects html tags or binary material in a message directed to a
non-html or non-binary newsgroup. Since Netscape defaults to
posting both text and html in a message this could account for
the error you see. Check to make sure you have netscape
configured to post messages as plain text.

You can use also touch -command. Read Dos-To-Linux -howto (can you

Well, you can't execute CD drive in Windows, why should you
in Linux ?
Have you ever heard about mounting ? No ?

Subject: Newbie To Linux..Questions.
Date: 12 Jan 1999 13:28:43 GMT
Hi,
I installed RedHat 5.2 a few weeks ago on a spare 4.5Gb HD. It all seems
to work okay, althought X-Windows is a bit shakey. However, growing up on
MS-DOS and Windows 95, I have a few questions.
1. Is there any way to mount the floppy drive without being root user? It
is a little annoying to have to be super user to access the floppy drive.
2. What is Linux native file format and how to I use it? At the moment, I
have been saving files to floppy using mount -t msdos /dev/fd0
/mnt/floppy. Is Linux native file format accessible by Win95 so I can
share files between drives?
3. Has anyone else had problems using a Microsoft mouse with X-Windows? I
had to write a script (mouseconfig --kickstart --device cua0) to fix it.
However, I have to do it each time before I load X-Windows. Can I put it
in a startup script so it will load every time I load X? Also, mouseconfig
is a root file. How can I run this script as a user?
4. I have had some problems running X-Windows in a resolution greater than
640 x 480. I have a S3 ViRGE 4mb graphics card. However, when I specify a
greater resolution using XConfigurator, X crashes out with error 111.
Could this be because I have a 3DFX Diamond Monster 3D as a secondary
graphics card? If so, how do I fix it?
5. Where can I get the Linux Doom WAD? I downloaded the GZIP file only to
be told in the readme that I didn't have the WAD required to play the
game.
Sorry for the large amount of questions. Any help answering any or all of
the above would be great. I really like Linux so far, but am feeling a
little out of my depth, so if any of the above is stupidly obvious to
anyone, please don't flame me...I scare easily :)
Replies by e-mail would be nice, but since I observe netiquette, I do not
insist.
Thank you.

My /etc/profile has the following line
test "$USER" = root && PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:$PATH
The entries in /etc/rc.d files are for the initialisation scripts
that are run when the system is booted.

Try ^J say CTRL+J ... you can generate a tiny script to to reset the
terminal ...
stty -g > reset.sh
... add stty to the front of the line and make it executable. On some systems
reset does not do the job quite right, this is the reason I use that.
