Correct file. But.. to allow telnet as root, you need to nuke/rename the
file.

I have DR3 that I downloaded and installed from the Apple FTP site. I'm
attempting to install IP Masquerade but I can't find the source to the
Kernel. I found what I thought was an identical kernel but it appeared
to only compile on a Intel chip. I also tried upgrading the Kernel to
2.2.3 but that source code wouldn't compile on DR3's compiler. Does
anyone know where I can get the source code for DR3 or an updated
compiler that will allow me to use newer kernels? Email me if you can
help or have any other solutions!!!!!????

you certainly should not have this problem.
By any chance, do you have append="mem=128M" or something in
lilo.conf? if YES, then you better change 128 to 127 since the
highest addresses of memory are occupied by *some stuff* (sorry
my ignorance).

Greetings Gurus!

I have a linux box, running Redhat 4.2. I do not have physical access
to the machine; all access is through the network. I cannot setup a
boot server on that network either.
Given this situation, is it possible to upgrade the machine to
say, Redhat 5.2, remotely? I'd like to hear from experienced
sysadmins who may have handled a similar situation.

Cheers, and rock on!

[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Christopher Radlinski) writes:

I think I may have found the problem. The SoundBlaster 16 Waveffects card
only supports two distinct DMA channels, 1 and 3. This is counter to the
older SoundBlaster cards which supported one 8-bit channel (1,2,3) and one
16-bit channel (5,6,7). The RedHat drivers (along with the Solaris
drivers--in fact, Solaris pointed me to this problem) expect one 8-bit
channel (DMA 1) and one 16-bit channel (DMA 5), not two 8-bit channels (1
and 3). I tried tweaking the PNP BIOS settings to lock out DMA 3 and,
hopefully, force the card to use DMA 5. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
As I don't really need sound support anyway (though it would have been
nice), I've pulled the card.

I hunted through the Solaris docs and newsgroup archives (DejaNews) and
found folks with similar problems on that OS. However, no one really had
an answer because the Solaris sbpro driver only supports DMAs 5, 6, and 7.
As I can't force the card to use DMA 5 and the driver won't use DMA 3, I
think I'm just stuck.

Does this diagnosis sound reasonable? Are my facts correct? If not,
please post and set me straight.

Hello:

I am trying to download RH-5.2 and install off my hard drive.

I went to this directory:

  /pub/linux/redhat/redhat-5.2/i386/RedHat

The content of the above directory is:

    |----> RPMS         -- binary packages
    |----> base -- small filesystem setup archives
    |----> instimage -- image used for graphical installs

Are the contents of these 3 sub-directories essentially the
whole 5.2 distribution for Intel?

If I downloaded all the above, do I need anything else beside
the boot.img and supp.img diskettes?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anubis,

The answer appears to be that there is only an rc.d directory in /etc. All
of the files in
the ls -la output are the directories and files within /etc/rc.d. The ln
command in the documentation
was wrong because it should have said /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/whatever.

Subject: Real Audio: Starts then exits
Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 01:19:14 GMT

I have kernel 2.2.2 running with the latest real audio 5 player.

Whenever I try to listen to something on the web, Netscape fires up
the rvplayer, which then flashes up, and promptly exits.

I have made the "hack" posted on the newsgourps (using dd) to fix rvplayer
so that it will play. If I start up rvplayer at the comman prompt and use
file/open, I can play a ".rm" file without any problems.

I use the following script to start the player as I am using glibc:

 #!/bin/bash

 cd /usr/local/rvplayer
 export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib:/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
 # Debug message to see what parameters are passed:
 echo "Starting... $*" >/tmp/rv.log
 rvplayer $*

This outputs the folowing in /tmp/rv.log:

  Starting... /tmp/MO36F2FA381DD0BAA.ram

Now, I would have expected the player to have been passed a URL or something.

My application helpers are set to run rvplayer as an app with:
   rvplayer %s

Can anyone see what is wrong? Any suggestions?

Brad

The site looks pretty goo, but you are rite the blue background does
make it a bit tough to read
try a lighter color font. Also the dual navigation bars is unnecessary
from what I saw none of your page are so long that they would require
this. You might want to put a single nav bar either on the side or on
the bottom in a frame so that it is there all the time.
