I am having trouble with windows in various programs ( Simplicity, xdvi,
ghostview,..) opening with their title bar off the top of
the screen. This of course menas I have to use the menus to get the move
command to move them back onto the screen, which is a pain. How do I
prevent this from happening?
RedHat 5.2, XFree86 3.3.2, ATI RAge Pro card, 1024x768 (both real and
virtual) running the RH AnotherLevel screen manager.
Thanks.

My guess would be that there are actually enough NT users
participating, but they just keep dropping off that list,
exactly as youd expect. :-)

What does this mean?
I'm trying to make a kernel ram disk image via:
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.2.3.img 2.2.3
and I get the error
"No module off found for kernel 2.2.3"
What's happening?

Whats wrong with cp -Ru? If you only care about whether it exists
or not, do a find /destination/path/. | xargs -n1 touch first.

Really? I think it's annoying that it tries to secondguess your
actions based on filenames: *.exe->shortcut, normal files on the same
hd->move, the same to a different drive->copy. I prefer kfm that asks
you every time (like when you use the right button in explorer).

There's xfm, kfm, gmc, f (filefinder-clone), Linux Explorer (I
couldn't get this to install the last time). Take your pick. They come
in all flavours, featurerich or minimalist.

Great, thanks ! Now... what about the option to delete files from the
destination tree which aren't in the source, thus making an exact copy ?

I don't think it matters whether owner is root or mail, and the
group is right. The permissions are hosed, though. You need:
chmod ug+x /var/spool/mail
chmod g+s /var/spool/mail
chmod o+rx /var/spool/mail
to make things work. Lack of execute permission on directories can
hose file lookups, and lack of read-execute access for other means
that no ordinary user can look up their mailbox in the directory.
Also, I'm not sure if the extra space at the front of " mail" in the
path you gave is real or an editing artifact. If the path really is
"/var/spool/ mail", something is badly wrong.
Another user suggested the sticky bit and write access for other.
I wouldn't do that, personally. The only reason would be to allow
the user to completely delete their mailbox, rather than just empty
it to 0 bytes, and that raises some nasty problems with getting the
permissions right when it's recreated, and allows anyone to create
a mailbox that doesn't currently exist and lock the legitimate user
out of it. Normally you don't want to allow that.

Ummm ... rm -rf /dest/path; cp -ax /source/path /dest/path? ;-)
The -ax option includes -R, I just switched to it because you
wanted an exact copy - man cp for details.

The screensavers I use take maybe 1-2% of the CPU, which would be trivial
even if I didn't have the RC5 client sucking up 100% of the idle cycles
cracking keys. And personally I have my X server set to DPMS-standby
the monitor after 60 minutes of no activity, which cuts 75% of the monitor's
power consumption ( and about 50% of the system's power consumption ).

It _is_ there, have a look:
<*> Native language support (Needed for FAT and ISO9660)

That is, you have to enable NLS to get the FAT option. BTW the
latest 2.0 kernel is 2.0.36, you might want to install this one
right away while youre at it.

Give some more details. What is the tertiary IDE? A Zip drive? Another hard
drive? Where do you put LILO? On the MBR or the first cylinder of the
partition?
LILO cannot see past the 1024th cylinder, so for a partition on a big drive, you
must make sure to put LILO on the MBR, or have the Linux partition being before
the 1024th cylinder.
If it's removable, like Jaz or Zip drive, then you probably have to specify some
options upon boot. I've never used these, but there are Howto's for them.

This answers the question right here; I'm glad I asked for this info...
You have a *really old* version of Enlightenment. Almost 9 months old; one
can gestate a human baby in that time, and "Rasterman" has generated a whole
lot of updates since last July.
Get a newer version; version 0.15.3 is the latest that I'm aware of; and you
should have substantially better results.
One place you can locate "latest and greatest" stuff in RPM form is
<http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ByDate.html>; that page indicates the March
19th release of an RPM for E version 0.15.3-6.
Head to that URL, grab E, as well as the nearby "configuration applet," and
give it a shot. Note that you could also use recent versions of
WindowMaker, which I much prefer, and which is greatly less consumptive of
system resources than E...

Subject: LILO on /dev/sda6 (ASUS P2B-DS, 2xSCSI disk)

Hi,
I have a problem with LILO. I want to have it on /dev/sda6 and let it
boot /dev/sda2 (W98) and /dev/sda3 (NT4).
This doesn't work on my system with ASUS P2B-DS and two SCSI disks.
What happens is that when configuread as meant (/dev/sd6 active, LILO on
/dev/sda6), the system won't boot.
When I install LILO on /dev/sda things look better. Linux boots fine.
NT4 however, starts a boot sequence but the gives me the BSOD with some
message that it coudn't find the boot device. Ok, silly NT4.
I think I have RTFM. But I still don't know what's going on. If you
know, by all means, speak your mind!!
Right now I have NT4's boot manager successfully configured to boot the
three OSes but I feel -say- akward with this situation. I include a
summary of my configuration.
Cheers,
Vincent Zocca

Subject: Please send list of libs needed to run jdk117v1a on redhat 5.2
Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 14:34:15 -0700
Hello,
I've been unsuccessful running the jdk117v1a furnished by
www.blackdown.org
on a linux redhat 5.2 glibc-based system (using glibc 2.0.7). I strongly
believe
that there must be a deficiency in the set of libraries on my system and
so am
asking that if you've been successful in running jdk117v1a on the
aforementioned
linux system, please send me a listing of the libraries via
> ldconfig -D
Thanks,

mkisofs -r -T -J -V LinuxCd$DATE_STR -A "$APPL_ID" \
-m '*.o' \
..

OOOOOOps. Just shows how your mind can play tricks. I was constantly
trying to use the page numver scroll bar as the document scroll bar.
That did not work. There is another large scroll "square" which does
work (or rightclick dragging over the doument). Sorry to waste
bandwidth.

egrep -c '^Return-Path: ' /your_maildir/your_username
is quick and simple. However, this will return an incorrect count if a
line in one of the bodies of the messages starts with 'Return-Path: '. I
don't consider that particularly likely, though. You can pick a different
header, like To: or From: or Message-ID: as well.

I get e-mail from some people that won't word wrap.
A single paragraph is one long line. I have to scroll to the right to
be able to read the end of the lines.
Is there a setting I'm missing?
Thanks in advance!
