You forgot to add iso 9660 support in the kernel.

# grep 9660 /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_ISO9660_FS=y

I had the same problem, but that wasn't the solution in my case.
(The printer was lp0 before and after the change.)
The problem went away when I updated the auxiliary programs
as recommended/ordered in Documentation/CHANGES .

I'd be interested to know if the problem _was_ in fact solved
in many cases by entering a different lp? in /etc/printcap .

Try installing modutils2.1.85 rpm and initscripts3.78(?) rpm. The Redhat (?
I assume this is your distribution) modified versions support this kernel.

There's a few things in the "help desk" section of

http://www.aa.net/~swear/pedia/business.html

but they may be more than you had in mind, and might all be
commercial. ?? "mot - Ministry Of Truth" might work better:

http://www.aa.net/~swear/pedia/pim.html

Or whip up something from one of the databases. Some are quite simple.
Emacs has a built-in database system that isn't great, but can be useful.

Generally speaking Red Hat 5.2 will be fine for a Toshiba laptop although
you are advised to have a look at the Linux laptop web site for
information on any potential issues with your particular model - I cannot
remember the URL just now but I am sure you know how to use a search
engine.

There are a couple of office suites for Linux that provide the document
compatibility you require. They are Applixware and StarOffice.

Applixware has a more traditional UNIX look and feel to it. If you used MS
Office prior to the version labeled 95 you will find it familiar.

StarOffice is somewhat more advanced the MS Office with regard to the
interface. In fact it provides a complete desktop environment and is thus
a much larger application to load.

Both of these can import MS Office 97 documents and export documents in a
format suitable for MS Office.

Oh, well. I've been running on egcs-compiled kernels 2.0.x for 4
months and egcs-compiled 2.2.0 since the day it came out. Without any
noticeable problems. My system runs 24x7. I don't know what the fuss
is all about. I do think it's a damn shame the way people are rushing
to dump egcs, though. Last year, it was the 'dump emacs with MULE'
herd; now, it's the turn of egcs. Like a bunch of damned sheep.

You justa gotta read, read and heed.

Disk space df
or df -h (human-readable)

Little by little.

Dir is ls; ls -l; ls -a; ls -F.

Do a man ls (for example).

Makes about as much sense as some of the other arguments I have seen.

I do see the GPL as being more restrictive than some other licenses,
but that isn't necessarily negative. I'd also like to think that
authors examine the various licenses and choose the one that suits
their philosophy, rather than just using one because everyone else is.

I tend to side with John, but isn't there room for more than one
