This is because the heathen Emacs users have written Lisp macros to do this

I was once involved with a project that used IIS as the webserver. It
took 40 seconds to serve a 2K file over a LAN. The NT sys admins spend
weeks trying to fix the problem. Eventually they gave up and switched
to an earlier version of IIS.

The reason I need to emulate Wyse50 is that the application on the AIX is setup
to use Wyse50 or the data screen becomes garbage.
Is there anyway in xterm to emulate Wyse50 or 60.

Back in the early 1980's, I remember booting a minicomputer
with it swapping to a floppy (8", around a megabyte
capacity) just to see what happened. It worked, but ISTR it
took about half an hour to boot up to the login prompt, and
another half hour to finish logging in :-)

Redhat 6.0 was 'frozen' within the last month or so. I'm making a

In order to enable UDMA, you have to do it in hdparm. If the kernel doesn't
offer a specific driver (your Ali), then it should just be using the generic
one. In order to enable UDMA on your drive, you may have to recompile
hdparm.
I haven't tried this out yet. I plan to soon.
Good luck.

One method I could suggest you and you might
play with it is to install vmware because it will
install you a "virtual ethernet". You can even
simulate Samba connection in your standalone
machine.

Well, not necessarily in this case. GNU/Linux is meant to refer to the
system as a whole. If the application makes use of GNU software, then
maybe that's more appropriate. But if it just uses the kernel calls and
possibly libc/libm (libc5 isn't GNU software...), then it's Linux.
Whatever, it is Linux and not linux.
Mark.

get new communicator. get the old source rpm. hack the spec and
rebuild. it's twice the download but gives you a nice package to
upgrade and uninstall.
i have a redhat spec file for the new communicator 4.6 and fortify
1.4.2. email me and i will be happy to send it to you. this will
save some download time.

Thank u all for the suggestions.
I have found another way
if i log in giving the complete info like this
"mysql --host='127.0.0.1' --user='root' --password='pass'"
i can get through. It seems that it is unable to resolve/find
localhost. My apache also has the same problem and i have to start it
using "httpd -c 'ServerName='hostName'".
Thanx again

You sure its not a setting on that card?
I have (had) a redhat 5.2 system and that exact soundcard and it worked for
me.
The only problem I did notice was when you ran multiple mixers...say KDE
and GNOME and then ran something like Xamp that could also adjust your
volume. I found that sometimes the sound 'cycled' for lack of a better
term. When you turned up the volume past its max point, it would start at
the lowest point again. If you werent paying attention you would think that
the sound wasnt working when in fact it was just set a low level.

Yep, all that stuff, plus with Samba it can serve files to NT as well.
NT's implementations of POP3, etc, actually do respect the RFCs, to the
surprise of many people, so they will interoperate with Linux. You can
be sure that MS are planning to rectify that, probably by extending the
RFC in proprietary ways.

In case of a crash there might no / exist afterwards, so my standard
advice is have a second / somewhere (adjust the fstab there) and some
kind of installation media.
Almost any distribution CD will do, just enough so you can install
the disk(s) and get your stuff back from tape. Using the see above
methods I've been through anything from a rm'ed libc over a mixed up
root to an overwritten partition table.

There is an option for banner pages in /etc/printcap, for details please
check the man page for printcap(4).

And we all hope your skills at software development is up to par with
your netiquette. I fail to see what this has to do with hardware,
m68k, networking, portable, powerpc, security, setup or operating
systems. Maybe you didn't read the charters. Maybe we won't buy your
software. Get a fucking clue.

Subject: painfully slow video
Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 09:30:39 -0700
Well, I did a clean install of linuxppc R4 from the CD last night, and
(thank goodness!) everything started working again. I even discovered
how to copy my dvorak xmodmap into /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap so
that I have my keyboard in XWindows as well as in the text shells (now
why doesn't the installer do that automatically?!?).
My biggest problem now is the video: it's painfully slow! I have a
StarMax 3000 (200MHz 603ev, 96MB of RAM). Dragging or resizing a
window is very, very slow, even in transparent mode. Menus crawl open.
The mouse updates several times a second (!) as I drag it. It's
pathetic. In MacOS, everything is snappy.
I'm not using any video card, just the onboard video, which is weaker
in the StarMax than on a real Mac. I do have a Rage Pro card I could
install if it would help, and I'll be getting a Rage 128 if ATI ever
ships the darn things, so please let me know if those can be made to
work under X.
I'm booting with "no video driver" (in BootX); I tried unchecking that,
but then my display is freaked out -- pixels doubled and ghosted, both
in the text consoles and in X-Windows. My mode seems to be about
640x480, 16-bit color, despite adding "-mode 11" to the serverargs in
/usr/X11R6/bin/startx.
It seems I either am not using the right video driver (how do I
find/activate the right one?), or I need to look into this "accelerated
X" business -- but that seems to involve downloading (and maybe
building) a new kernel, which makes me a bit nervous.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-- Joe

That way you'd have each platform benchmarking at about 2 requests served
per month.

I made the same mistake; took me several days to figure it out!
