In the "for what it is worth" column, my problems were finally cured (I'm using
a Ricochet wireless modem with Ricochet.net) by fixing the aliases in
conf.modules below *and* turning off Van Jacobsen header compression by putting
-vj in my /etc/ppp/options files. Go figure. None of this was mentioned
anywhere when I upgraded from RH5.2 to RH6.0.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or victory/horror
stories to share about seting up video4linux cards. I am planning on
using a Captivator PCI card and I want to be able to view camcorder
recordings through it. I don't want to waste the money and time if it's
not gonna get a decent frame rate though. In Windows it is supposed to
get 30 fps, but can Linux do it?

Thanks a ton,
Mike

I'm gonna try that DiskDruid again with RH6.0. I've used DiskDruid from
Red Hat 5.0 it it works for me. You just have to pul the last partion as
growable just like doing fdisk. I've installed Linux using DiskDruid more
than fdisk...

Or they are two different free database software?
Are they both run on Linux?

I found xagent-0.7.5.tgz at ftp://sunsite.unc.edu in directory
/pub/Linux/system/news/readers/

Hope you have better luck with it than I did. I found it wants to
download the entire list of groups every time you fire it up, and my
server has over 58,000 groups on it. Needless to say, I don't have all
day to wait when I only subscribe to about 20 of those 58,000.

Gave up on it and went back to Netscape.

get new communicator. get the old source rpm. hack the spec and
rebuild. it's twice the download but gives you a nice package to
upgrade and uninstall.

i have a redhat spec file for the new communicator 4.6 and fortify
1.4.2. email me and i will be happy to send it to you. this will
save some download time.

hope this helps.

Access times (not modtimes) are updated when files are opened and
read. There could be a difference in buffering the write-back
to the inodes. I'd expect Linux to toss the updates in the normal
disk write queue. Does FreeBSD give priority to this write-back?

In the end it was actually a windows problem. I had set the default gateway
in dhcpd.conf, restarted dhcpd, and assumed that when I renewed the license
via winipcfg that the default gateway would automagically be updated. I was
wrong. Anyway, once I rebooted the system I found that everything worked.

On the support channel for that app? If i find a reproductible flaws in the

Whining about bugs on comp.os.linux.advocacy will not reach most ppls

Eric S. Raymond in his "Cathedral and the Bazaar" essay did identify some
points that permit succesfull development of apps. One of them was to open
a communication channel betwen users and developpers.

After you create the accounts you nedd to give them a passwdord
try:
adduser freddo
passwd freddo

then switch to another VC and try to login to the new freddo account.

Once you get this working you can remove freddo with
