Subject: Red Hat 6.0 Bugs
Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 09:55:57 +0200

Hi all,
I've installed Red Hat 6.0 about 20 days ago. I was a Red Hat 5.2 Linux.
After 20 days I've compiled a list of bugs or something that I suppose
to be bugs, I would like to know if someone have find this trouble or if
someone have a solution of them.

1. During the installation it crash on Update becouse it don't succeed
in mounting a previous formatted filesystem. I suppose this problem is
solved by new images that u can find at http://www.redhat.com/errata
.....

2. Netscape Communicator 4.51 crash on java applet and have a big bug on
addressbook so tha u can't use it. I've updated it to 4.6 and the
problem are still there!!

3. Somethimes E sound crash, I get this error logging out from a user
and logging in into another. It happens only if the both the users use
Enlightenment.

4. Somethimes Whn I turn on my PC and logging into a user It fails on
logging in, It don't change the login screen (my runlevel is 5).

5. Are missed the data directory in PostgreSQL rpms(Client-Server DB).
So it fails on boot up.

6. Everytime I boot Linux the system clock is moved forward a few odd
hours. Then at middle of boot up it return to the correct value.

That's all. If u have find other "Bugs" let me know.
Thanks a lot and best regards
Luca Satolli

Our system (SUSE 6.1) is freezing(no reaction at all!!! and it's
reproducible) when saving a document (which was previously opened and
converted from Word97) using the RTF format. Has someone a similar
experience or ideas what might cause this ? On the COREL site I didn't find
any hints at all.

The limit to a Linux swap is 128mb, if you need any more you need to
create more than one swap partition

In Slackware you have to link /usr/local/lib/rpm to /var/local/lib/rpm
provided you built rpm using the defaults.
(rpm 3.0 will not work without some reworking so make sure you have
2.5.6 or earlier)

Just rename the glib-config to glib-config.old same with gtk for the
version you do not want to build with. They are in /usr/local/bin

I think the application you're looking for is clock, usually
found in the /sbin. There's more than one clock application, it's
man page is in section 8, 'man -S 8 clock'. Somewhere in your start
up scripts (usually in a place like /etc/rc.d) there's probably a
script that invokes clock. It should invoke it as '/sbin/clock -u -s'
if you've got your CMOS clock set to GMT time, and without the u if
it is set to local time. (Of course, if local time is GMT, ...hmm, not
sure what the implications might be).
I don't know 'bout NT though.

Rev'ing mt up to 0.5b (or down to 0.4) will also fix the problem. FWIW, RedHat
5.2 ships 0.5 (ie, the buggy version), and RedHat 6.0 ships 0.5b.

Ok, here's the deal.. Just installed RH6 on my system, no problems.
However, when the screensaver kicks in or if you use the mouse for the
game XBoing, a big, obnoxious white streak appears on the screen (going
from the mouse position to the bottom of the screen). FYI, I am running
a P-II350, with an ATI 8mb AGP video card using the Mach 32 X server in
1280x1024 @ 32bpp. [breathe...] It is a standard m$ 2 button PS/2 mouse
in question. I'm stumped...

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Lemme know if you need
additional info.

Inline code requires complete implementation in the header files,
which AFAIK isn't there. But ... is there some reason you *couldn't*
use libgcc.a in the kernel? I can't think of a good one, but I know
how much I do not know about kernels, linking, etc. Of course, if
__udivdi3 and __umoddi3 make use of the FPU, you're SOL.

Hi...

    I'm using RH 6 running apache 1.3.6 and php3 3.0.7 as a module.
However, when I do a fopen() command from a php3 script I get a seg
fault from httpd (but the script completes)!! Now you may say, report a
bug. Did that, but I can't get httpd to barf up a core file (not even
by setting ulimit -c unlimited and running httpd -X). So here are my
questions:

Has anybody experienced similar results??
Aside from not using fopen(), what can I do to eliminate this problem??
Failing that, how can I pry a core dump out of httpd??

TIA,

My thanks to all who responded.

Brian is, of course, quite correct. For some reason, I thought that
when using fetchmail I had to start a separate procmail process. It
never occurred to me to actually look and see if SENDMAIL already uses
it. I was completely confused about how procmail works.

My thanks, again, for your patience with my stupidity.

IIRC, there are floppy images on the CD. You can use rawrite in DOS to
create boot and rescue floppies from them if necessary. (This, of
course, is assuming you have DOS lying around somewhere.)

Windows does not assume all control over DOS. DOS is still available,
every program executed still has a DOS psp, DOS still handles calls
Windows does not handle. DOS device drivers are still callable. Does
this constitute "taking control" or "augmenting?"

It is not so much that Microsoft is putting extra time in to screw us,
it is more the opposite. They are selling 15 year old technology as
innovation at a premium price.

It's called IP-Masquerading under Linux. The kernel needs to be rebuilt
to enable ip-masqing and a script loaded on startup to enable
ipchains(2.2 kernel) or ipfwadm(2.0 kernel). The FAQS are in the usual
places ie; Linux Documentation Project or Woven Goods for Linux. You
will need (2) network cards in the linux machine. One for the cable
modem and the other for the localnet out to the other machines. The
setup is pretty simple. No special software required like in Windows.
Everything is built in just needs configuring.

The error is on your side. Fetchmail is trying to deliver to your
(local) SMTP port, and something bad is happening. Either
sendmail (or eqvt SMTP listener) isnt running or it is
mis-configured.

Fetchmail shouldnt actually delete the mail from your POP host in
this case - but maybe it is, who knows?

Two things: first - fix your sendmail setup. If you cant/dont
want to, I believe Fetchmail can be told to deliver without using
local SMTP port. rtm.

Secondly, try fetchmail with "-v" option. May give you more info.
