Anyone remembers the link? I looked for hours but can't remember/find it.

I do not mean pdksh etc.. But the ATT version.

Look at the /etc/inittab file.
It describes what programs run at which run levels.
You can disable the login program on the default virtual terminal
and run your program instead.

The user could still use Alt-F2 to get to another login prompt.

Hope this helps.

I can send email with unix mail to external addresses. No problem.

However when i specify in Netscape for my SMTP server "localhost", then
local mail succeeds, but external addresses are reported as "cannot relay".

I am lost.
Can someone explain me this or tell me how to do it right?

You could also try the svgalib site

Check out the source for any Open Source SVGAlib programm that does fonts
etc there is a svgalib fax program, I think it is

and there is zgv the svgalib viewer

They may offer different fonts and some clues

Subject: need to select appropriate Linux distributions
Date: Wed, 25 Aug 1999 11:52:08 +0200

Hello world,
LINUX is a new toy for me, I have heard of Suse, Red Hat, Caldera,
Mandrake... and that there are overs 100 differerent available
distributions!!! I would like to know which of these to choose according
to the context. The different cases I am interested in are following:

(1) at work, a multi-processor PC used in developing and running
 scientific applications;

(2) at work, a PC used as an internet or intranet server;

(3) at work, a PC used as an active network equipment;

(1-3 bis) a Sun workstation in the same cases as above;

(4) at home, my PC used with applications like Star Office and
Netscape Communicator, connecting to internet via an internal
USRobotics MODEM, and used sometime to compose MIDI music with
a Sound Blaster AWE 64.

A distribution is good, in my opinion, if :
- it provides all what you need and let you install only what you need;
- it is (almoste!) bug-free;
- it is easy to install and manage for a UNIX (Solaris, HP-UX...)
administrator;
- it is documented at least on the web;
- successive releases respect at least backward compatibility;
- the distributor is not going to move away tomorrow without leaving any

address...

Such thing does not exist, probably, but thank you very much if you can
help
me in any way to find something approaching.

It's all possible. This is what we like about Linux :)

Have a look at /etc/inittab. You can modify it so that it runs your
script after system starts up. In my system the last line of the file
is:

x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

You could change it to (e.g.):

x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/my_script

/etc/X11/my_script would start X11 and then your application.

However, I think it would nice to modify the X11 startup scripts so that
your app is started instead of a window manager.

This is just an idea. Maybe there is some more elegant solution.

Good luck,

Hello,

With cdrecord -scanbus i got the following warnings:

I'd like to use xcdroast as the program to write my CD's, so I installed
the generic scsi support in my Suse 6.2 2.2.10-kernel. With this kernel
I couldn't
boot the system. Then I compiled the generic scsi support as a module.
With "insmod sg" I load the module and then I started xcdroast. After
perhaps 30 sec. the system crashed again.

Any help is appreciated,
