My stupidity and being lazy....
But I just took it for granted that I should do "man ksh" not
"man sh". The file is "/usr/local/man/man1/sh.1".
I have another question though. Where can I find more info
regarding "man pages" not only from system administrators'
perspective but also a application programmers' perspective?
I know I am being lazy again but any input will be greatly
appreciated..
Thank you, Dave and Paul

IDC only tracks the number of copies sold, i.e. the commercial success
of RedHat, Caldera, etc. They do not have the means or intention to
track the number of systems actually installed. There is a web site
that publishes a periodic automated survey of Internet connected
systems that shows Linux to have a slim lead over all Windows systems
combined, but I don't have the URL here; it's bookmarked at work.

Im looking for an iso file of Caldera OpenLinux that i want to burn to a
cd. The other reason i want this single iso file is that i don't want to
download the single files of the os. If anyone knows a ftp server that
has this type of file you help would by greatly apreciated.

The module handler automatically unloads modules when they are unused
for a prespecified amount of time (1 minute?). Read
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/modules.txt

As I understand it (and my understanding of this is patchy), the
buffers/cache part is actually free memory. The "free" column indicates the
amount of memory that hasn't ever been allocated. So the free buffers/cache
is a pretty good indicator of your free memory and should increase when you
shut down Netscape. If this doesn't happen then yes, something odd might be
going on.

Subject: Linux License Issues
Date: Wed, 08 Sep 1999 05:46:06 GMT
I have a question regarding licenses from vendors such as RedHat,
OpenLinux and HP.
1. Per-machine license
OpenLinux charges a per-machine charge of 50$. Considering that nobody
holds the
right to Linux and the going legal model seems to be that RedHat et al.
just
'package' the SW, I don't understand how a company can charge per
machine.
What prevents you from buying one copy and installing it on all of your
machines?
2. Source Code
More and more I am making the experience that Linux vendors (such as HP)
refuse to
give the source code to their Linux.
As far as I know they are legally obliged to deliver that OR they end up
violating the
various Linux open-source copyright/license modes.
Can somebody pls. clarify above issues for me?

Hi people,
If you want to make any OS go away to install winnders, you must use fdisk
to set the master boot record and create DOS partitions.

Well, let's look at it this way: I have bought 3 books, each over 2
inches thick, on Win9x, and do not have the time to find things like
this (shift-right click for context menu with Open With in it), nor can
I find the things I really need to find (like where the boot menu is
stored, how to edit it, and how to set up your config files to work
right with it). When I got my AmigaDos 3.1 ROMs and software, I had
three books (Workbench, AmigaDos, and ARexx) which all together do not
add up to the thickness of the smallest of these Win9x books. They are
better organized than the Win9x books, and I can find the information I
am looking for in them.
I have also gotten fed up with Windows' "help" system. Everything I
have looked up in it has either been missing, or had just the briefest
of answers which does not relate to the information I am looking for. I
have only gotten one, barely useable answer from Windows' Help. Such is
the life of a Microsoft slave. Oh may I be freed by the AmigaNG.

You are probably right on this. however, I am not seeking

useful mental exercise and should serve linux better even

Well, on my Win95B (with IE5) system, the shift-right-click bit does
_not_ bring up a menu with "Open With" as an option.
Is this something that was added in Win98?

Is that a per-machine license or a per-machine support
charge? The second is perfectly legal.

Nothing, but you may not get the suppport if you don't
pay for it.

How long has HP had a version of Linux?
Are you maybe confusing it with HP-UX which is HP's own
version of Unix? HP-UX has been around for over a decade,
a lot longer then Linux.

Subject: Running Q1 on Linux as a process? qwprogs.dat files anyone?
Date: Wed, 8 Sep 1999 01:18:45 -0500
Hello and greetings to all my brother and sister fragaholics and Linux
users:
Currently I am in need of assistance with a project where by am in the
process of moving my Quakeworld 1 server off of a quad processor Dell
PowerEdge server running NT 4 and onto a new system that will fill the
bill - or I hope. A 333 PII running Red Hat 6. So far real good. I have
all the maps and everything running well on the bench and it's ready to go.
Now what I need to be able to do is set this game up that I have installed
in /usr/local/games/quake and it needs to be executed with the ./qwsv -mem32
on the command line or a terminal. But, there are times where this server
may need to be bounced and no one will be there to log in and respawn the
game. How do I run this game as a service to be respawned on it's own?
I have found the /etc/initial file useful as a runlevel 3 and in the profile
I edited that and added the PATH statement correctly and set the permissions
as well to this entire mess. But upon rebooting it starts and crashes
because it can't find several related files that are in this directory. I
have made sure that all the hard and absolute paths are there - no links
mind you just as a test the real path to all the files and still no luck.
Also, if anyone can point me in the right direction to finding qwprog.dat
files with some mods would be a big help as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Regards
Tim

I don't know enought about this to know where you went wrong, but
I do use these commands with success to install TTF in RH 6.0 for Netscape
which
really does need them.
mkdir /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
cp /mnt/c/windows/fonts/*.ttf /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
cd /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
ttmkfdir -o fonts.dir
chkfontpath --add /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
I mount my c drive as /mnt/c and there is a space
before /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts but if might be hard to read from line 2.
