Aw, OK. I thought maybe a very small subset, not ALL the files!
Something that would reasonably confirm someone had been trying to mess
around. Being a newbie, I couldn't suggest anything more definite.

Thanx anyway!

Hello althogether,

1 Question: SMP is it Symetric MultiProcessing or is it Shared-memory
MultiProcessor or is it all the same.

2 Question: Linux is known as a 32 bit operating system (not supporting 64
bit in any way). As far as I know is ULTRASparc or Power PC for example a 64
bit machine (and I guess Linux stays 32 bit OS on these machines). Can Linux
exploit any 64 bit feature like adressing more than 4 GB memory or storage
on these machines? If the instructions for Linux are 32 bits, are there two
at once processed on an 64 bit machine?

best regards :o)

decent ones should be able to manage a "green-screen". HTH,

Ultralinux is a 64 bit os. It uses the 64-bit features of UltraSparc
chips.

When i try installing the licq rpm binary file their are a few dependencie
problems, when i try running the "rpm -i <licq file>" it says:

error: failed dependencies:
        qt >= 2.0.2 is needed by licq-0.76-1
libgt.so.2 is needed by licq 0.76-1

Are these files on my mandrake 6.1 disk? if so what is the name of the rpm?
If not were can i find these files, and where should i extract them to (if

I had a similar problem trying to install Windows 98 over Red Hat's
Linux. I found some software on a Gateway system recovery disk I had at
work called gwscan.exe. It has a mode that zeros out every bit on a hard
drive, thus giving you an unformatted hard drive. There is probably a
better way. Good luck!

Hi All,

My video card is an old Tseng ET-4000 with 1 Mbyte video RAM; I have a very
good monitor vith freq 35-85, 50-100.
I have been using Windows till now, and I got up to 800x600 in 16 bpp, or
1024x768 interlaced 8 bpp.
Now I use RedHat 6.1. By manually changing the XF86Config I was able to get
a resolution of 1280x1024, 8bpp, that I have never seen under Win, but
couldn't get any resolution at 16 bpp since it was complaining about the
lack of "linear memory".
I have used SVGA server; I also tried some different server but none worked.

Is there a way I can fix it, or I need to change my graphic card ? And if
you answer yes, please suggest me a video card not very expensive that run
perfectely under Linux (and decently under Win, if possible :-) )

Best Regards
Amedeo Storni

I think you're correct, either the kernel sources are not installed, or
you have a missing symbolic link or erroneous symbolic link pointing to
the kernel source. Go into the standard kernel source directory to
check - /usr/src/linux. There should be an include directory in there.
You can verify that it is there, and that errno.h is in there. If so,
then you'll have to track down the erroneous symbolic link that will be
in /usr/include somewhere.

Well, depends on the flavor of Linux you are using, but you can try this:

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/network start

also, you may look at this file:
    /etc/sysconfig/network

bash is the default shell on most Linux systems. You can change that if
you want to, but you don't need to. Add this line at the top of your
script:

#!/bin/csh

and your script will run csh no matter what shell the user is running.

You shouldn't write scripts in csh, though.

Hello,

My spousal unit has a double machine like that and she bought one of the
commercial partitioning software, Partition Commander I think.
It is set up kwo that the system comes up with a choice, of which os to
boot.

You might want to look into that.
LILO can be set up to boot either also but it has a problem over 8 Gig. :(
(Had that problem:))
The danger of LILO is you would have to install it inot the MBR.
And I don't know how Windoze will like that. The spousal unit's system's
'98 is cranky at best crashing often.
I hop ethi shelps.
Have Fun!

We have a SuSE 6.1 machine set-up as a router/mail server.

It is set-up to dial our ISP every hour and collect any email. The users
are running Windows 95/98, with either Outlook or Eudora depending on the
users preference.

The problem we have is when large attachments are received, we are unable to
collect the message from the Linux box. This seems to happen if the
mailbox gets any bigger than 1.5 meg.

Does anyone have any idea's??? Your help would be appreciated!

I want to add Linux to my PC. I want to repartition my hard drive
without losing some Windows (sorry!) data I have, then be able to dual-
boot Linux or Windows (and eventually maybe Windows under Linux using
VMWare). I'm trying to figure out which of the commercial (or free)
packages will let me do this easily. After several hours of perusing
FAQs, catalogs, and commercial web sites, I've found that (most likely)
Macmillan Complete Linux 6.5 would let me do this, probably Corel Linux
OS, Storm Linux 2000, and Caldera OpenLinux 5.1, also. I don't know
about RedHat, TurboLinux, or SuSE, and I don't know which ones have
the best installation interfaces. (I don't have a high-speed network
connection.)

If there is a FAQ somewhere that would answer my questions, just point
me at it and please accept my apologies.

It would be a good idea to take a look at this URL:
http://www.xfree86.org/X.Y.Z/tseng.html
replace X.Y.Z with the version number of your Xfree86. I think all you'll
have to do is put the line
Option "linear"
in your XF86Config to get 16bpp. I could be wrong.

Support for the lower-end ATi cards is pretty good. If you can find an
ATi Rage Pro or Rage Pro II, those are about $50 U.S. or so--maybe less if
you only get 4M/RAM. (I'd upgrade at some point if I were you--24bpp is
nice.)
