How did it not work? Is it because you have "-f- b" instead of "-f -b"?

If this is under SCO and it's a serial printer, you probably need to set
XON/XOFF - either via the printer dip switches or insert an stty line in
the printer interface script.

Using the above mentioned method, tgif stil cannot export directly
into JPEG or BMP formats. However, you can export into GIF and then
use cjpeg from the JPEG distribution to convert GIF to JPEG or use
giftoppm and ppmtobmp from the netpbm package to convert GIF to BMP
files.

The problem you notice is likely to be connected with your BIOS settings.
Try
disabling the option of PNP OS and IRQ autoconfiguration and make some irq's
Lagacy ISA (like the one that is being shared? by those two devices) and
enable
reconfiguration. While the machine starts look at the PCI configuration
messages.
When you will see that the devices you mentioned are still at the same IRQ
you can
still disable PCI'ness of another IRQ and so on... but remember to left some
IRQ
available for PCI bridge! And in case you use some ISA PnP device try using
isapnptools package. If you still have problems with'em just mail me youre
configuration (all devices you have with related bios configuration and boot
messages). I'll try to find some time to find out what is going on.

Good luck.

Hi,

A user of tgif told me that he found 2 apps (tgif and xcoral) that
work strangely under GNOME/Enlightenment. But the same problem
doesn't occur under WindowMaker.

If he runs tgif or xcoral from an xterm, either app will start with
a large window near the bottom of the desktop. After he kills the
app and start tgif or xcoral from the same xterm for the 2nd time,
he will get a small square window near the left top corner of the
desktop. After he kills the app and start tgif or xcoral from the
same xterm for the 3rd time, he gets a normal size window.

He only found tgif and xcoral to have this problem. Is there a
call GNOME/Enlightenment expects an application to call so that
this problem wouldn't occur?

Thanks in advance!

Install either am-utils or autofs:

Am-utils includes an updated version of Amd, the popular BSD
automounter. An automounter is a program which maintains a cache
of mounted filesystems. Filesystems are mounted when they are
first referenced by the user and unmounted after a certain period of
inactivity. Amd supports a variety of filesystems, including NFS, UFS,
  CD-ROMS and local drives.

You should install am-utils if you need a program for automatically
  mounting and unmounting filesystems.

Autofs controls the operation of the automount daemons. The automount
daemons automatically mount filesystems when you use them and
unmount them after a period of inactivity. Filesystems can include
network filesystems, CD-ROMs, floppies and others.

Install this package if you want a program for automatically mounting
  and unmounting filesystems.

Subject: firewall or dhcp locking linux
Date: Wed, 10 May 2000 08:10:08 -0400

I have a machine acting as a firewall to my home network (currently only
one machine behind it). It's using ipchains with ipmasquerading. It
also uses dhclient to get an ip address from my cablemodem.
Ocassionaly, the machine completely locks (can't ping it, no numlock,
nothing). It _seems_ to happen more often when I'm making a lot of http
requests from inside the network. Also, I was told that the cablemodem
service went out briefly one evening at approximately the same time that
the machine locked once. When I repower the machine, there is nothing
in /var/log/messages or /var/log/firewall that looks relevant. I am
running SuSE 6.3.

Has anyone else had this problem or have an idea as to how I could find
out the cause?

Thanks,
Thomas

There are more copies of the superblock at regular intervals. Are you sure
that hda3 is really an ext2 filesystem - you will get the same message when
you try to e2fsck a swap or foreign (fat,ntfs,..) partition. Also make sure
that your partition table is still correct.

I tried to mount the device and got to many mounted file systems or
invalid superblock so I used e2fsck
e2fsck -f -b 8193 /dev/hda3
and still could not mount the device. So the point is something is
wrong with this device, but may be it can be repaired, something like
in WIN Norton Disk doctor or so. Of course there are companies which
will recover the data for you, but this is at least around 300 Dollars

Use the emergency boot disk you made when you installed W98 in the first
place (you did make one, didn't you?)
Failing that, any DOS boot disk which can load drivers for your CD-Rom
and hence find the setup programme on the W98 CD-Rom should do.
You will have to use Linux fdisk first to remove your Linux partitions,
as Dos fdisk is too brain-dead to recognise anything to do with Linux.

The bootmap may be correct, but since the bios cannot see any discspace
beyond cylinder 1024,(or lilo since it uses the bios info) you may have
bad luck. All depends on the actual physical location of your kernel
image, so a previous image may have booted (out of pure luck being
allocated below cylinder 1024) but your new kernel isn't located on such
a place.
BTW. You can get the new lilo from the web which doesn't suffer from
this limit.
