Nice going!
I now know that 530TX has two revisions, rev A and B.
So choose the correct driver corresponding to your card,
you'll get it work.
for the rev B driver:
ftp://tsc.dlinktw.com.tw/dlink/dfe-530tx/DFE-530_B1/lin307.zip

Tell me, is it possible that tcp/ip and ppp are mutually exclusive? Do I
have to disable my Ethernet card in order to dial out on my Linux box?

That's exactly my problem too. I have 2 NIC's in my machine. An
integrated AMD LANCE and a 3com PCI. And I can't change the IRQ's
because it's PCI. Or am I wrong here? It used to work in the past,
though. Well, it is working now too, but only with static IP adresses.
DHCP refuses to work saying theres a problem with eth1 (my PCI card).

Question: is such an integrated NIC always PCI? If it isn't, can I
change the IRQ?

Where do I find this LD_LOADPATH variable? I still cannot compile
Fetchmail, I continue to get the same error. I do have the krb5-libs
rpm installed. If I remember correctly, it is a later version. I am

No. "dialling out" is something to do with your modem. Once your modem
is talking to another modem, you can establish a ppp connection along
it. Then you can route via the ppp0 device.

their a book that can tell me all the commands that I need to know and to
understand the command line concept (just another windoze user). I do have
a cheat sheet from the dummies book but I need alittle more spelled out to

Subject: Security problem with 'passwd' program
Date: Wed, 07 Jun 2000 15:36:44 GMT

There is a serious problem with the 'passwd' program under RH 6.1,
VALinux version.

If you have an account with a null password or an asterix, even though
the program states that it has updated the tokens, nothing happens.

root [942] > grep xena /etc/passwd
xena::2019:40:The Warrior Princess:/home/xiena:/bin/sh
root [943] > passwd xena
Changing password for user xena
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully
root [944] > grep xena /etc/passwd
xena::2019:40:The Warrior Princess:/home/xiena:/bin/sh

The security hole still exists!

edit to add an asterix

root [946] > grep xena /etc/passwd
xena:*:2019:40:The Warrior Princess:/home/xiena:/bin/sh
root [947] > passwd xena
Changing password for user xena
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully
root [948] > grep xena /etc/passwd
xena:*:2019:40:The Warrior Princess:/home/xiena:/bin/sh

The account is still locked!!

Not a good thing.

Hello,

  I have the following configuration
  - intel Pii-350, 256MB RAM, ASUS P2B motherbd, adaptec 2940uw,
    SCSI disks,

Last week I performed a fresh install of RedHat 6.2. After
tweaking XF86Config, I downloaded and installed Gnome 1.2
That is basically all that I have done to the system.

When I try to run Netscape (4.72), I get a Bus Error.

I know that Netscape ran after installing RedHat 6.2. I confess
that I can't say for sure that Netscape functioned after installing
gnome 1.2 -- I went away for 5 days immediately after the install,
and when I returned, Netscape would not run.

I found some hints on deja.com about database files, so I cleaned
up my $HOME/.netscape/ directory, no luck, so I even removed my
$HOME/.netscape directory and still no change.
I have reinstalled netscape, with no change.

  Anyone have any suggestions?

There definitely is something strange going on with neomagic adapters during reboots.

There is no Quicken *for* Linux but apparently some people have run it

Subject: LILO and Packard Bell
Date: Wed, 07 Jun 2000 15:58:24 GMT

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has come across any problems with installing
on a Packard Bell computer.

Here's my problem:

My friend has a Packard Bell 133 MHz Pentium. There are 2 drives of
concern, primary IDE master and slave drives.

Master: Windows 95b
Slave: Corel Linux

When we attempt to boot 95 we get a "Replace System Disk" error. Not
quite sure why. The identical to my setup except that I don't have a
Packard Bell, and my setup works. We've even added the following lines
to LILO:

map-drive=80
   to=81
map-drive=81
   to=80

And the darn thing still doesn't work. My only thought at this point
is that the Windoze drive needs "resys'd" (i.e. sys c:).

Any thoughts as to why this setup doesn't work or how I can fix
it???????? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

TIA.

I have not seen that script before, but it won't work on standard Redhat
systems. Standard RH6.1 does not have the modules scsi_mod and sr_mod.
They are compiled into the kernel, instead.

You should be able to get things working by adding the line:

append="hdc=ide-scsi"

to /etc/lilo.conf and running /sbin/lilo, as described in the HOWTO. Of
course, replace "hdc" with the correct designation for your CDRW.

And then put these lines into conf.modules:

alias scd0 sg
pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi

Or as an alternative, this single line seems to do the same thing.

alias scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi

Don't forget to change the /dev/cdrom link, which also should be
described in the HOWTO. Now reboot, and if you are really, really lucky,
it will work.
