True...if he or she were a sci/tech gossip columnist. I'm sure you'll
acknowledge there's political gossip, music industry gossip, movie
industry gossip, etc. Computer gossip gets lumped with science gossip in
some organs of the media. Also this company uses its cluster to do
scientific research of a sort I'm pretty familiar with.

Will this combination work, the 40gb drive is not going to be a boot drive i
have a smaller 4.3 for that, this is just for a ftp server, Anyone who can
point out some reference places on how to get this to work would be greatly
appreciated. I read somewhere about having to get the 2.3 kernel to do this
with large drives, but i dont wanna do that and have to learn netfilter, and
i use ip masq as well.

I think that would be a great idea to replace it with EPOC. Has anyone seen
the "Quartz" from Psion? It's set to come out later this year. When I read
the specs for the Quartz it reminded me very much of the iPaq. Compaq really
is preparing just in case Microsoft bails out on the PDA platform.

Dear all,

I have installed Redhat 6.2.
I would like to set a screen saver in GNome X window,
but most of them doesn't work, they works in the small box

in real case.

why is that? how can I solve the problem?

hi,
i'm running RH 5.1. I downloaded procinfo17 and trying to install it.
i made the changes to the Makefile, however the source files requires
termcap.h. I don't seem to have it on my system.
There is a comment in the Makefile that one may need to use ncurses. what
is that? should i use the curses.h instead of termcap.h in the source file?
thanks,

What did you do when you install Linux on this machine (NOT the
central server)? I believe the installation program needs to
copy files into /usr during installation.

I belive your 13GB disk is still in 1024 cyliders limit. But 30GB is
out of the limit. That's why yours is working and his is Not working.
I had same problem, now I have to boot linux use boot disk. It was slow.
I am looking for a way to make it faster.
By the way, how do you make 5 partitions in one disk. (I thought Linux
need another Swap partition) ?

Hotmail uses FreeBSD for the web servers and Solaris for the backend
database servers. I've had a Hotmail employee tell me the above story
isn't true, that they have never tried to move their service to anything
else. I was told, though, that Microsoft is constantly asking for
Hotmail to use NT in any way, and that Hotmail just ignores them.

2.2.14 will work according to the Large Disk HOWTO. You could also
patch 2.2.12 but if you're going to do that, you'd might as well
use the 2.2.16 kernel. As long as you're comfortable compiling a
kernel, it shouldn't be a problem and it's not a huge upgrade.

There are supposed to be two fsck commands in rc.sysinit. One for the
root quite early before doing most anything else including re-mounting
the root rw. Much later the other file systems are checked before
mounting the /usr and the other file systems. Skipping fsck when
required is also dangerous, as continued usage of a damaged file system
will case even more damage, which can't be repaired, whereas if you fsck
early enough the damage can be easily repaired in most cases. If you
combine everything into one big root file system it is even more important
to do fsck when the system thinks it is required. A pure root filesystem
without /usr, /var, /home, /root, or any other data file system does not
get updated very often, and runs a much lower risk of being damaged by a
power failure or a kernel crash.

The Motorola L7089 cellphone (using the data cable) is an external winmodem.

(oddly enough, when used over infrared it's a hardware modem, though with
 fewer features)

The find is executing multiple cp commands so you have to
separate them with semicolons. So you have to put a ; on the
end but escape it so that it's not interpreted by the shell:
Try this:

find . -xdev -type f \( -ctime > 1 \) -exec cp -aPv "{}" \;

I don't understand why you've got the parentheses in there.
Is it to protect the ">" from the shell?

 http://www.openresources.com/es/magazine/linux-kernel-22/index.html
Para el kernel 2.4 , al que le queda poco para convertirse en oficial ,

You can use mmv which can moves/rename multiple files. It should be
included in your distro, if not check freshmeat. The syntax that you
want is:

        mmv "*" "#1.html"

Yep. God forbid anyone should spend a few minutes a day learning how to

Well, but the poster wants to learn *UNIX*-like environment. Although
BeOS is somehow POSIXised, it however lacks manu of UNIXish features,
like there is no users/groups, file permissions, etc. So, if that guy
wants to learn unixism, BeOS is useless.

I am not trying to offend anybody, I tried BeOS, it is a nice OS, but it
has been made for different purposes.

Right now I would say that if you want to learn the general spirit of
Unix, just about anything will come pat: Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD
(they are free, i.e. no money); if you want, you may pay $75 for SUN's
SOLARIS - IMO, it is more stable on Intel x86 than Linux, so you'll have
much less headache tweaking your box.

Just decide. Whatever you take, it will be useful. Knowledge itself is
power, isn't it? :))))

I already tried with my compiled kernel it is the same. Aa I said I can restart
my computer if only I turn off power for at least 1-2 seconds. Presing reset
button did not restart computer. Only video is turning of.

Subject: Printing more than one page per sheet.

I know that you can print more than one page on the same sheet using the
command below.

mpage -2 -bA4 yourfile.txt | lpr

However I have a number of postscript files that are each a single page
in length and which I want to print on one sheet. I've tried the
commands below but it won't print.

mpage -1 -bA4 -dp image1.ps image2.ps > both.ps
mpage -2 -bA4 -dp both.ps | lpr

If instead I send the final command to a file as opposed to the printer
it produces a file that ghostsrcipt can open ..... just [the pointer
changes to a waitinng symbol which never stops waiting].
