Neither one. The Linux kernel was developed from scratch based on the
POSIX specs.

I have to admit that I gave up trying to set up a proxy on Linux. I just don't
have the time right now (God knows I tried). So, I run windows "internetgate" w/
wine. It is a shareware proggie that is free for two computers.

It does it the same way the BeOS Personal does it. The icon you
double-click is a PIF file. One of the options of a PIF file is to force
windows into exiting to DOS before the file runs.

It can also specify a custom autoexec.bat and config.sys if it wants.

Well, the Ghostscript ljet4 driver by default does rather poor
dithering, and does it rather coarsely. You can switch to the lj4dith
driver, which dithers better, and/or fiddle with Ghostscript's
DITHERPPI setting as documented in the gs file Use.htm.

I am stuck in x terminal on Mandrake. Just installed again, the gui

reinstall because the boot partition corrupted. have my HD partitioned
with Partition magic. Have a boot mount (100 meg)(primary), a root mount

It's a sparse file. df reports how much it uses. Try 'ls -s' to see
the allocated size.

Other than losing your quotas?

I think you mean you are stuck in console mode. An XTerminal is a
virtual console in a window on the GUI. To get to X from the console
type startx

Check out /etc/rc.d/rc.local

If I have anything like this, I usually hunt it down by looking
for a relatively unique string (such as the RedHat release like
Apollo) and grep through the whole /etc dirtree.

cd /etc; grep -r Apolllo *

and this will spit out the files which have the Apollo string in it.

You're welcome. There are times when I've asked for help on usenet
and gotten it from people who had struggled with the docs. There are
times when I struggled with the docs myself and finally got something
to work, like cdrecord, and am glad to save somebody else some grief.
The command lines I put in my post were basically cut and pasted from
a file I keep around. I cut and paste from that file myself when I
burn a CD just so I know I'm not leaving out an argument or making a
typo. I know there are tools like xcdroast, but once I got cdrecord
working and was comfortable with it, I never felt like experimenting
any further.

If you use what other people are using where you are, it might be easier
to get help. Here at Florida State the most popular distro is Mandrake,
which is based on Red Hat. Don't use Turbolinux, it has problems.
Slackware is better for experienced users. Caldera's version includes
Partition Magic, so that you can partition your hard drive as you install.
Otherwise you have to do that before you install. I like Red Hat. It's
got lots of support and I have been able to download the Gnome-Helix
desktop with no problems. But in our FSU Linux User Group Mandrake is
king. If you grab a copy of Maximum Linux magazine real quick, you can
get it for the price of the magazine.

Mike, you already received this message directly, but I also wanted the
other readers to know...

Greetings,
Sander

---

Hi Mike,

Take a look below for a sample configuration file. This one I use at home,
and Linux/Samba is working as a PDC for my Windows 9x clients. Note however,
that PDC support for Windows NT (and 2000 I presume) is NOT supported yet by
Samba. This will be supported when version 2.1 comes out (currently I am
using 2.05a).

Most important settings for PDC are:
domain logons = Yes # pretty obvious
os level = 43 # higher priority that Windows NT
preferred master = Yes # master browser
domain master = Yes # obvious

And do not forget the [netlogon] share, it won't work without it. You may
share any directory you like, as long as the users are permitted to read
(and execute if you use logon scripts) from it.

Hope this helps, good luck,
Sander

I got this message when I tried to do a partition with fdisk the first

cylinder boundry so I used my pocket calculator to figure how big it
should be. I don't know much myself but it worked.

I guess I didn't word that the way I meant. When i login to Linux, it
does go to a window on the gui called "X term". I do not know how to get
to the KDE from there. Even when I select KDE for session type at login.
Possible swap size problem?

Don't know if there is another X based version but the RH one uses Gnome -
ie its gnome-linuxconf and is I believe RH specific ...
Another alternative is to run it via a web browser - look on on Deja for a
uk.comp.os.linux thread called 'Accessing linuxconf with a web browser'
late '98.

A netmask of 255.255.255.248 is pretty restrictive. That leaves
you with avilable 6 host IPs (8-2 for broadcast addresses).

Your network on eth0:0 only carries 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.6? Also,
that conflicts with the existing network of 10.0.0.0/16.
10.1.0.0/16 would be OK. So would 10.1.0.0/255.255.255.248 if
you want to keep that network tiny for some reason.

No...he's one of a band of people who believe that Linux will one day become
the pre-eminent operating system.

They are a little like Mac owners: very, very devoted to their cause.

Just remove the declation on line 222. IN a perfect worl every global
variable or procedure should only be declared in some included header;
expecially those provided by the system.

It is better, though, to use strerror to get the error string.
man strerror. Sometimes global variables that are not supposed to
be used by the public gets re-named without warning.

Subject: Filesystem always reported as 100% full

Hello

I'm using SUSE 6.4 and I'm having problems with one of my
filesystems. It's always 100% full (according to 'df'), regardless how
many files are deleted. I'm sure that this must be an error, but I
have absolutely no idea how to correct it. As far as I remember even
running 'fsck' did not change anything. I am slowly getting troubles
with different applications, for example some of my Java apps refuse
to write to files anymore. Here is the output of 'df':

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 3927769 3821206 0 100% /
/dev/hda1 7496 3019 4077 43% /boot
/dev/hdc 116654 116654 0 100% /cdrom

Thanks in advance for any ideas. If possible please include my
email address in the recipient-list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

bye

Run it from a console; if it says 'command not found', install it..

Doubt it. So yuo are starting X OK, and trapped in an xterm?

What happens if you type kfm at the prompt?

I don't know if it's just my computer (Toshiba 300CDS laptop), but both
shifts work for me.
