I'd suggest <http://www.google.com/> as a more useful initial option;
that's likely to get you at somewhat-distilled answers, possibly
avoiding some of the "blathering" that takes place.

If that doesn't suffice, Deja.com is certainly a good second choice...

I am using SuSE 6.3 2.2.13 kernel + pilot-link version 0.9.4 + jpilot
0.95. When I try to access the pilot, the same problem occurs

pilot-xfer -l
Unable to bind to port '/dev/pilot'.

jpilot gives an error-message when i try to hotsync:
pi_bind: Das Argument ist ungueltig (means invalid argument)

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Hmmm, I think there's something along the lines of 5k words in the english
language. And I know very few of those yet manage to work and communicate in
such an environment.

On a very full install of stuff I have 2499 binaries in my paths (plural), a
huge load of which aren't what you would call 'commands'.

The joy of unix is being able to tie together a few commands you know well
to do what you want. Compare that with searching through menus to see if the
application will do what you want, in the way it thinks you should do it.

OT I know, but you don't need to 'know' more than a few dozen commands to
run a unix box in a day to day environment. If you can't hack that then I
have to doubt whether such a person could really use a computer at all.

It works about the same as the Solaris version.
Adobe seems to have adopted the interesting approach of
'crippling' the beta version by choosing a hideous color
scheme for their Motif motif.

When I triy to telnet to my linux server remotely I get the following:

What would apache and squid have to do with telnet? I suggest you
check you system logs(/var/log/messages) to see if it has further
information on what is happening. It could range from ipchains
blocking to traffic, inetd denying the connection to the telnet server
not being installed.

Well, I was once given the advice that the ownership of httpd was wrong, I
changed that and that fixed the problem. This time it is not the problem.
Nothing in the messages helps. perhaps it is ipchains, but why only the
password? The telnet server is definately running since I telnet in from my
local clients.

Do you mean to setup a ppp server? You only need IP numbers for that
(two of them). Don't use 127.0.0.10. Use 192.168.0.x (pick two values
for x, any two values between 1 and 254. Note this is *only* if you are
going to implement PPP, and the *only* reason would because your users
only know how to download files with Netscape or IE, which assume an
InterNet connection. If your users understand about x/y/zmodem, you
don't need PPP (unless the other machine is running a PPP server).

When kernel 2.4.0-test5 initializes, I get the message:
"starting amd: nfs warning: mount version older than kernel"
but everything seems to work okay.

I downloaded the source for mount-2.20f-1 and installed the package (so

report the source package loaded either. But the package load went on
without complaint.

Please help.

I suggest having users use the zmodem protocol to transfer files (on the
unix side, part of the lrzsz package; I think hyperterm will handle it on
the windows side). You just need an entry in /etc/inittab for this. Setting
up a PPP server is not worth the work, IMO.

For connecting to the other box and downloading files, you could probably
write a minicom script.

Does anyone know where i can get info on this monitor? I have had
absolutely NO luck. I would like to set the screen res above 1024X768
but i don't want to smoke it either. I would like to know what the
function button does too.

Thanks

If your only concern is that it works with Gnome, most any of them
come with Gnome. A few that don't come with Gnome are Corel Linux and
Caldera Linux. This leaves some potential candidates such as Red Hat,
Mandrake, SuSe, Debian, Turbo Linux and Slackware. If you have other
criteria, the list can be further narrowed.

When on 13.08.00 I read a letter from psybertech
about: "Remote login problem. Please Help!",
I decided to do war and invoked my tribal gods with:

I assume the prompt asks you for a username, before you enter a
Passwort. Did you perhaps try to login as root? I know that the preset
value in SuSE Linux is to not allow telnet as user root. Try to log in
as another user to find out, if that is your problem.

Nothing to do, so I decided to bore you with:

In SuSE Linux I can only access an NTSC partition in write protect mode.
How do I get a write access?

I had that exact problem about 2 weeks ago. I found out that my hard
drive was trashed and had to get it replaced :( Thank god for the
warranty!

Some kind of Dick, anyway...

Personally, if it works from the inside and looks different from
the outside, I think you're telnetting to the wrong system. It
looks like a router prompt.
