I have used 2.2.16 and 2.4test7 with no problems (other than the install
gotchas).
Before suspecting the kernel I would ensure that all system requirements

That wasn't too hard, was it. Tcpdump is a program that monitors network
trafic (which includes internet traffic) and displays information about the
packages (==trafic) which travel thrue the computer. The man page should
give you more help on this item, or type tcpdump --help.

Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 15:59:18 GMT
The situation is as follows: I have two computers (I have more, but they are
not important right now). The first computer is a server and has a harddisk
of 250 MB. That's not very much for Linux, so I didn't install any compile
and development tools. Because it's a server, I have installed Apache, but
now I need some extra security and I thought of mod_ssl.
On another computer, I have compiled Apache with mod_ssl. Now I would like
to get Apache (with mod_ssl) on the server computer. Do I have to copy only
the httpd executable? Or also other files.
Your help would be much appriciated.

Not yet in Linux, the closest you can get is to set the SGID bit on
directories, and newly creating files in that directory will inherit
the group. (But not the permissions.)
Some Unixes (HPUX, AIX) have added 'ACL' support, so you can specify
individual user or group permissions on a directory, and these
will inherit. ACLs are fairly new in Unix, and I've only heard rumors
that they would be supported someday in Linux.
I suppose you can create a shell script with find and chmod that will
set the permissions they way you want, then run the script from
crontab. I don't recommend this, you should try to adopt to the
security model of Linux rather than try to force it to work the
way Netware does.

Well, I would expect so, but I am trying to figure out why PPPD would
bomb out after the connection is made. All I have done is tried to set

You might want to try Brecht Claerhout's Sniffit which can
be run in an interactive mode: "sniffit -i".
See:
http://reptile.rug.ac.be/~coder/sniffit/sniffit.html
BTW: It compiles out of the box.

It is one thing for a program or two to be confused about time zones,
but quite another for the OS system time to get reset by that
program. Unless that confused program is running as root, it should
not be causing the problem I am describing. And if a such program is
running with root privileges and occasionally goes amok in my system,
I would have reason to be concerned.
